Hodgkins Lymphoma What Is The Process Like For Hodgkins Lymphoma?

What is the process like for Hodgkins Lymphoma? - hodgkins lymphoma

I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, on Friday after a biopsy was performed in the neck a week ago. Yesterday I learned that I was going through chemotherapy, the bone scan, PET, including at a port in my chest, lung scans. Its very overwhelming. I'm happy about losing my hair nervously. Can anyone me some details about the process and how long can you take? Thank you.

I was with Hodgkin's lymphoma Phase 3S in December last year diagnosed.
I can understand why you feel right now. The first two weeks were very overwhelming for me.

After my diagnosis I was referred to an oncologist. At my first appointment with him, explained what Hodgkin and how it is. It also gave me a list of things that have in the next 2 weeks before the start of chemotherapy.
I) had a test (PFT Pulmonary Function Test, a lung / breath. He also made an analysis of the heart and other organs.

This is not how their bodies before starting chemotherapy. If the doctors feel that chemotherapy can damage these organs, are new tests so that they can change in the functioning of the body caused by chemotherapy.

The biopsy of the bone marrow was not as bad as everyone said it would. What harm was the most shots that I shot stunned the other (non-inferior shot at the dentist). The doctor said he could not even began to feel before the biopsy. I've heard some say they could hear his bones crack, but do not happen in my case, if something begins to wonder just earplugs.

The PET scan lasted about 2 hours, nothing wrong, but there were restrictions on food, before you go so safe to listen to you when you arrange your appointment.

I went with my doctor, he told me he had, and the scene that had spread through my body. If you have a copy of PET very interesting.

Set in the port, nothing wrong, and believe me, even if it hurts still many who say it was worth it, because it is! It may be a bit of pain around the incision to alwayss prescribe certain painkillers.

You have the chemotherapy days after he in their port, or start a week later, it really makes a difference. I began my treatment next week. Bring you read something or someone to take you tothere and at home. I've always been one of my aunts always different, so I was never bored. By type of thing there, the hope that when you with someone like you because you spend about 3 hours with them.

I had a total of 12 treatments of chemotherapy for 6 cycles.
After my second treatment my hair began to fall, I think this knife is the best option, otherwise it becomes quite everything. My friend owns a salon and a night, went there and gave me a funny hair short before shaving. Wigs can be fun sometimes. My niece called me and play with him in wigstand. Most people do not even know he had a hand on me and when someone asked where he started the treatment. When I told them that I had 3 months, they like "oh well, at least his hair is not lost!"

I had the best nurses in chemotherapy. I know it sounds crazy, but I think I'm glad that I got sick, I do not know if they'd known when I was healthy. Juey've prompted me to enter the field of medicine.

The only advice I really counts is to drink too much water and flush the chemotherapy out of the body. And do not eat the foods you love when you feel sick.

Jackie Good Luck! I know I'll win this, let me know if you need someone who can speak.

Hi Jackie, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I am a survivor of Hodgkin's lymphoma, I finished treatment two years ago. I have six cycles of ABVD chemotherapy and 20 radiation. Treatment of Hodgkin varies depending on the type / stage before it. The bone scan, do you think of the bone marrow biopsy to see if it spread to the bone too. I will not lie, you really suck ... But the good news is fast enough, and when I, in any case, I had a lot of morphine and Ativan, so I knew what was going on. PET scans are not much, is similar to a scanner, you can have before. Are injected with contrast and should drag on for an hour or more, as it circulates through the body and shows a the metabolic activity in the scanner. The study itself takes about 45 minutes, when he long and tedious - if you are claustrophobic, you usually give something to calm down. This is a good time for a nap. He had a port, so that easier, the chemo 100,000 times, and some ports that can be used for blood DRA(Wings what is a lot of it) will be good, because they do not need to find a vein. An operation that placed in the not too bad, had a little pain for a few days, but nothing I did not make it, some Vicodin. And the lungs .... example, tests of lung function? Some chemotherapy drugs can have adverse effects on lung function have (bleomycin is a leader who is often used for non-Hodgkin's) a check and not usually a PFT in order to obtain a reference to the lung. This is no big deal, they have some breathing exercises on a machine on a computer that is connected to the lung function measures.

Through the first diagnosis was for me one of the most difficult, if through them and start of treatment is easier to get into a routine of the class. I do not know how old he is, but it is very important resources for young adults with cancer, there are tons of online help. Also check your local groups who support the sector, although it is usually not the thing to help - sometimes, the people who do not speak "to achieve this goal. "Oh, and what hair ... unfortunately quite common with most chemotherapeutic agents. While not many people lose all their hair, only thinner. Personally, I decided to cut her hair short when I handle the diagnosis easier then fell after the Treatment 3 is very bad, so he shaved his head actually turned out to be strangely liberating. I do not know look with wigs, as this either, that soon look to wear scarves or upset, I'm not much of a person has, but they also work.

I hope my tips are useful to you somehow. If you ever want to chat, please contact me, good luck with everything!
